Nico Malan is one of the top academic high schools in the Eastern Cape.  Our 70 % matric exemption rate enables many of our matric learners to attend tertiary institutions nationwide.  Our staff is experienced and knowledgeable about their subjects and aim to excel.

AOO GRADE 8 & 9

The following subjects are offered:

  1. Afrikaans Huistaal of Eerste Addisionele Taal
  2. English Home Language or First Additional Language
  3. Mathematics
  4. Natural Sciences
  5. Social Sciences
  6. Economic and Management Sciences
  7. Technology
  8. Creative Arts
  9. Life Orientation
Note: At least one Language must be a Home Language.

Pass requirements:

A complete portfolio with all tasks completed

  • 50% (level 4) for Home Language
  • 40% (level 3) for First Additional Language
  • 40% (level 3) for Mathematics
  • 40% (level 3) for any other three subjects
  • 30% (level 2) for two of the remaining three subjects

ACADEMICS

COLOURS

  • An average of 85% in grades 8 and 9 – final report mark.
  • An average of 80% in grade 10 – final report mark.
  • An average of 75% to 79,9% in grade 11 – final report mark.
  • An average of 75% to 79,9% in grade 12 September final result -final report mark.

HONOURS

  • Three scrolls achieved in academics.
  • An average of 85% in grade 10 and 80% in grade 11 – final report mark.
  • An average of 80% in grade 12 September final result – final report mark.

FIRST AID

COLOURS

  • Three consecutive years of service with 75% service at organized school events and a level 3 qualification.

VOO GRADES 10 - 12

The following subjects are offered:

Compulsory subjects:
  1. Afrikaans Huistaal of Eerste Addisionele Taal
  2. English Home Languagte or First Home Language
  3. Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy
  4. Life Orientation

Note: At least one Language must be a Home Language.

Choice of subjects:

Three of the following subjects must be taken.  Please take note of the combinations available according to the subject choice form which can be downloaded.

  • Achieved within the top ten in any Olympiad/expo final – nationally.

HONOURS

  • Three scrolls achieved in Olympiads.
  • Winner of any Olympiad/expo final – nationally.
  • An average of 80% in grade 12 September final result – final report mark.
