Sport
Sport
Nico Malan offers a wide variety of sport and has build up a proud tradition of participation and achievements over the years. The school has implemented a conditioning programme helping sportsmen and women to condition themselves during the pre-season. Achievements on provincial and national level in various sports are reached annually.
Athletics
The athletics season is from January to April and then again from September to November. Practices take place as noted on our year programme. We work hard to develop a love for the sport. Athletics is the type of sport that flourishes with dedication and when good discipline is applied. Meetings in which we participate are as follows:Our motto is higher, faster, further.
Cross Country
Cross Country is active during the winter months from May to August. Practices occur as stipulated in the year programme.
Gholf
Golf is played throughout the year on various courses in the Eastern Province. Practices are on Wednesdays and Fridays and league matches occur on Mondays.
Rugby
The school is well-known in the Eastern Cape for its hard, running brand of rugby.
Hockey
Boys and girls play hockey during the winter season. At the moment, there are 9 girls’ teams and 1 senior boys’ team and 1 junior boys’ team.
Surfing
Since we are situated near Jeffreys Bay, SA’s surfing mecca, it is understandable that this sport has a large following.
Netball
A large number of girls are active on the netball courts during the winter months.
Tennis
Our tennis teams participate in the 1st league of the Eastern Cape. Two boys and girls’ teams respectively are involved. Tennis is played throughout the year and there are also tournaments outside our province. Practices follow the year programme’s stipulation. We hope to establish the following in our players: a passion to win/an ability to be a gracious loser/love of the sport.
Swimming
Swimming is an official summer sport. We hold an annual inter-house gala.
Cricket
Cricket is a summer sport occurring from January to March and then again from September to October.
Chess
The sport is developing nicely at school. Practices occur on Thursdays from 14:00 to 16:00.
